8. Faster progress to higher quality wool

Progress towards the production of higher quality wool can be made in a number of ways. The usual way involves:

  • classing the mature ewes;
  • selecting the replacement hoggets;
  • choice of a superior sire;
  • obtaining guidance from your stud-master; and
  • the use of specialised breeding programs.

These time proven procedures will achieve progress, but it is possible to increase the rate of progress by incorporating scanning in the overall operation. The way in which ultrasound scanning can be used to increase the rate of progress towards higher quality is discussed in the relevant pages of the technical section of this website. To access this information you must belong to the ALSS client list and have your ewes scanned by ALSS contractors.
